Automotive Diagnostics — Response On Event
3 min readJun 27, 2021
This service is used if the client would want to stop or start transmission when an event occurs. There can be a scenario that the client also requests the server to execute a service when an event occurs
Important points about Response On Event service
- If any of the data parameters in the request message is invalid, the server/ECU responds with a negative response code of 0x31
- The response on Event can be set up in any diagnostic session including the default session. Tester present need not necessarily be “ON” for the service event to be active.
- Processing of the new request or response message takes priority in the server/ECU than the processing of the event. If occurred simultaneously, Event processing happens after the processing of the diagnostic message.
- Vehicle manufacturer designs the handling of simultaneous multiple event occurrence and its responses to the client
- The server will execute the service contained in the “Service to Respond to Record” when the event occurs within the event time window when requested for activating service on the event
- A change in diagnostic session to a non-default session will clear the response on event service even though the service was initiated in a non-default session…
